Homemade "Acrylic Dots"!

Hello again!

I wanted to share with you a really fun and easy project - making Acrylic Dots from Perler Beads.  :)

I found this tutorial on the web from Katie at Our Charmed Life and had to try it.  (She was also kind enough to send me some Perler Beads to try out - I have never seen the striped ones before - thank you Katie!)

I was so excited to try it out that I forgot to take a picture of my before but here is the result of my 1st batch...  (I baked them at 325 degrees for 35 minutes.)

Here is a close up to show how perfect and shiny they are!

I was so happy with how they turned out I HAD to make more!  Here they are in the oven...

Well... let's just say my 2nd batch was not as successful as my 1st one.

For some reason some of the colors melted like doughnuts instead of dots - I have no idea why!  Has this happened to anyone else?  Does anyone know why or if you can stop it from happening?  The only thing I can think of is that the dye used to make those colors just isn't conducive to the process.  LOL

I hope you enjoyed my quick little tutorial, I'd love to hear how it turned out if you give it a try.

I have done this 2x now and I always have a few that don't melt right but the majority do okay so I do not know either.

fun--but does it smell like chemicals? The donuts are cute accents too.

I have done several batches and I haven't had any donuts, but I think they would work as just embellishments also. I hope they have red and white stripes around Christmas. They would make cute pepperment candies.
